CNC machine tool operators know that every time they open the enclosure’s door it’s smart to wait a few moments to allow the mist and smoke vapors to dissipate. After all, no one wants to stick his or her head inside until the air clears.

One of the oft-heard complaints from CNC shop owners is the amount of time it takes to train new hires on policies and procedures. Add to this taking your experienced employees away from producing parts to help train the new people, and your costs begin to add-up in a hurry.

Current US fuel economy standards require manufacturers to improve average automobile efficiencies from 27.5 MPG to 54.4 MPG by 2025. Loading bar stock manually is a tedious, time-consuming task that requires the nearly constant attention of your machine operator. As a result, you end up adding a great deal of material handling cost to each part you make. Plus, as it rotates, an unsupported bar stock creates vibrations that transfer to the spindle and may impact surface finish. Some shops compensate for this by reducing spindle speeds which, of course, adds cutting time and, again, additional cost-per-part.
