7 Reasons to Add a Bar Feeder to Your Haas Turning Center

Loading bar stock manually is a tedious, time-consuming task that requires the nearly constant attention of your machine operator. As a result, you end up adding a great deal of material handling cost to each part you make. Plus, as it rotates, an unsupported bar stock creates vibrations that transfer to the spindle and may impact surface finish. Some shops compensate for this by reducing spindle speeds which, of course, adds cutting time and, again, additional cost-per-part.

These reasons alone make adding an automatic bar feeder to your turning machine a smart investment. Especially if the bar feeder is designed to be as easy to use and worry-free as possible. That’s why Haas engineers studied how bar feeders are actually used in CNC shops before completely redesigning the Haas Servo Bar Feeder. The new bar feeder is a perfect complement to Haas ST-10 through ST-35 and DS Series turning centers. It handles bars from 0.375” (9.5 mm) to 3.125” (79.4 mm) in diameter, and from 15” (381 mm) to 48” (1219 mm) in length. Here are 7 unique features of this newest productivity improver:

  1. Compact, foot pedal released, rollaway design makes it easy to access rear lathe spindles to quickly change liners.
  2. Pushrod speeds are seven times faster than on previous models for improved cycle times.
  3. Ergonomically designed height adjustment makes bar diameter changes quick and easy.
  4. No tools needed to change pushrods, and the rods can be used as a stop.
  5. Pushrods conveniently store inside the bar feeder lid and all extruded liners store in racks on the front of the machine.
  6. Bar feeder operates from the Haas CNC control.
  7. Optical sensors insure accurate bar position.
