While it’s virtually impossible to eliminate every bit of chatter in every turning situation, Haas has developed a feature called Spindle Speed Variation (SSV) that significantly reduces the effects of machining vibration. Here’s how it works: SSV automatically speeds up and slows down the spindle throughout the cutting process to keep the cut out of the chatter zone. You can use SSV with or without tailstock support.

Nests of stringy chips can damage your automatic tool changer or migrate onto an inspection probe, causing inaccurate measurements. Worse, when the stringy chips wrap around the cutting tool during an operation, it can keep the coolant from reaching the cutting zone, creating excess heat and tool wear.
