What Does Big Data Mean For The Future Of Manufacturing?

Posted on Nov 27, 2015 12:00:00 AM

People have always relied on information to help them survive, evolve and excel. The first humans needed information to deal with the affects of weather, find sustenance and to avoid such dangers as the various preditors who saw them as a source of food.

Through the years we human beings collected, recorded and used data to continue to deal with the world around us. In manufacturing we use data to insure compliance with established standards, help refine our processes and measure our success.

Now technology has greatly expanded our ability to collect and organize information, thus creating the era of Big Data. But what does the existence of Big Data mean for the future of manufacturing?

Cutting tool producer Sandvik Coromant asked people to consider this question and presents their thoughts in a 6-minute video. We think It’s well worth your time to take a look and then consider how you use data in your shop.
