How To Keep Cutting Tools Lubricated & Clear Chips On Your VMC

Posted on Jan 8, 2016 12:00:00 AM

There are many factors that impact CNC machining productivity. Two that are often overlooked are the efficiency of delivering lubrication to and removing chips from the cutting zone. Without proper lubrication the machine works harder, heat that can cause deformation builds up, cycles take longer, and cutting tools wear out faster. Cutting through chips that fly onto the workpiece can have much the same effect.

Because every application is different you should carefully consider which methods to use when delivering water- or oil-based lubricants, and clearing away chips. In this video you’ll see demonstrations of:

  • Flooding coolant
  • Programmable, high pressure directed coolant
  • Thru-tool coolant
  • Thru-tool air chip blasting
  • Air gun chip blasting
  • Minimum Quantity oil-based coolant delivery
