Veterans_193x163_v4.jpgReentering the job market can be difficult for many armed forces veterans, especially if they lack marketable skills. Add to this the need for qualified CNC machine operators and you have a perfect reason for the Gene Haas Foundation to donate to San Diego, CA based Workshops For Warriors (WFW).

WFW is a non-profit school founded in 2008 that offers advanced manufacturing classes in CAD/CAM programming, CNC milling, turning, laser and waterjet machining and other manufacturing disciplines. According to the school, “The mission of Workshops for Warriors is to provide quality training, accredited STEM educational programs, and opportunities to earn third party nationally recognized credentials to enable veterans, transitioning service members, and other students to be successfully trained and placed in their chosen advanced manufacturing career field.”

Students receive both classroom education and hands-on training on equipment including eleven Haas CNC mills and lathes. The Gene Haas Foundation recently awarded WFW $250,000 to offset training costs and provide stipends for students completing their certification programs.
