Few would argue the value of a good education. In fact many believe that the majority of our society's woes could be greatly improved if our educational system was more effective and efficient.
The same could be said for American manufacturing. Almost any discussion of the challenges facing CNC shop owners includes concerns over finding good employees. Part of the problem is the lack of both experienced educators and the resources schools and students need to properly prepare for machining careers.
While there is no single, simple solution, Haas CNC and your Torrance Haas Factory Outlet are putting their time and money to work to help educate students interested in manufacturing careers through the Haas Technical Education Center Network (HTEC).
HTEC is a national cooperative of more than 1700 educators in schools, colleges and universitues who use Haas CNC machines to provide hands-on, real-world experiences for their students. The goal is to create career-ready machine operators, programmers and engineers to be the next generation of manufacturing professionals.
In addition, over 80 CNC Technology Partners and Haas Factory Outlet personnel work with these educators to help both instructors and students say up-to-date on the latest technologies and machining techniques.
Each year Haas sponsors a CNC educator’s conference to provide HTEC instructors continuing education while enabling them to network with their peers. This year’s event took place July 27 – 30, 2015 in California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. The 2016 event will be July 18 – 21 at Central Maine Community College. Haas and local HFOs also support local, regional and statewide conferences throughout the year.
