Turning machines with a second spindle can provide a number of benefits to CNC machine shops. - Matching Chucks: Both spindles should have identical chucks plus sufficient power and torque for optimum performance.
- Tool Management: For unattended operation, it’s important that the operator can set up sufficient tools and that the turning center’s control monitors tool wear and automatically replaces worn tools.
- Smart Programming: Because adding a second spindle means reversing spindle rotation and toolpath direction, the dual spindle lathe should provide a mirroring function that reverses the program for the secondary spindle, making it easier for the operator to program and eliminating the chance of errors.
